Men jailed for cash van robbery

Three men have been jailed for a total of 19 years after they were found guilty of stealing money being delivered to a Tesco store in Staffordshire, thisisstaffordshire.co.uk reports.

Robert Court, Darren Duggan and Warren Jackson targeted the cash in transit vehicle on March 23rd 2011, as it arrived at the supermarket in Trent Vale.

The three arrived at the store in dark clothes and with their faces covered, which aroused suspicion among the staff inside. They then waited by the cash machines and pounced once security guards began to remove cash cassettes from their van.

A total of four cassettes were being delivered, but the gang only made off with one; thought to contain around £13,000. They bundled into a stolen Volvo and sped away, but the plan came unstuck when after dumping the vehicle, they got into a transit van owned by Jackson. The van had his name and contact information along the side.

In the ensuing case at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, the three pleaded guilty and were all sentenced to prison. Jackson was jailed for seven years, Duggan received a four-year sentence. Court was handed seven years and four months in prison. At the case, Court also pleaded guilty to a separate robbery on a Barclays bank in Machynlleth, Wales in May.

Handing down the sentence, Judge Mark Eades explained: "They [the robberies] were thoroughly and professionally planned.

"You were expecting to receive a large sum of money from these robberies, the crimes were committed by and gang, and the security guards were vulnerable victims. Each of you played a vital role," mytunstall.co.uk reports.
