Criminals sentenced for violent cash in transit robbery

Loomis UK, a provider of specialist cash management solutions, announced that five more criminals to be sentenced for violent cash robbery based upon the forensic strength of SigNature® DNA which continues to assist in sending Cash-and-Valuables-in-Transit (CViT) criminals to prison.

Deputy Superintendent Paul Broxson, Lancashire Force Major Investigations Team, stated “Working seamlessly with our team, SigNature DNA has provided forensic evidence that the criminals robbed a specific Loomis UK cash box.  The DNA-marked notes provide absolute precision not available with any other markers.”

In December 2008, Imran Aslam, a Loomis UK (CViT) employee was shot when making a delivery in Blackburn, Lancashire.  At gunpoint, he gave the two robbers his cash box, however, when unable to give them access to the Loomis UK van, he was shot.  After days in hospital and months at home, Mr. Aslam continues to recover.

Superintendent Neil Hunt, also of the Lancashire Police Service, added “The collaborative effort of the Police, members of the community and Applied DNA has resulted in criminals behind bars.”

SigNature DNA continues to prove it’s the strongest weapon in the arsenal to protect against cash crimes.  In the last 18 months, SigNature DNA has been pivotal in 30 cases, with more than a dozen convictions sentenced in the aggregate to more than 100 years.

“We are especially gratified to have authenticated these cases, as we helped to secure the arrest of the shooter,” said Dr. James A. Hayward, CEO of Applied DNA Sciences who manufacture SigNature DNA.

Tony Benson, Loomis UK Ltd Risk Director stated, “We have a zero tolerance approach to anyone who commits crime against Loomis and never tire in our work to bring them to justice. When a Loomis employee is injured during a criminal attack it gives us even further incentive to ensure that the criminals are imprisoned and that we recover any assets that they mau hold.  To know that those responsible for this violent crime are going to jail provides some consolation while we continue to support Mr. Aslam through his recovery.  The work  that the Police and Applied DNA have done with the forensic evidence to definitively link these criminals to this crime should provide a further warning to any other criminals.”
