Face for new £20 attracts over 21,000 nominations
Over 21,000 nominations have flooded in to the Bank of England - which closed its two-month public consultation last night – on the face to appear on a new £20 note.
Fashion designer Alexander McQueen, sculptor Barbara Hepworth and author Beatrix Potter are among the big names in the world of art to be suggested by the public.
Nominees, to replace economist Adam Smith, must have come from the world of the visual arts and no longer be alive.
Bank Of England Governor Mark Carney will make the decision and the new note will enter circulation between three and five years’ time.
